Powai Lake

About

Scenic artificial lake surrounded by hills, perfect for recreation. Created in 1891 as a reservoir for Mumbai's water supply, Powai Lake is now a scenic recreational landmark in the eastern suburbs. The lake is bordered by the prestigious IIT Bombay campus and the upscale Hiranandani Gardens township, giving it an unusually green and planned setting. The surrounding hills of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park create a picturesque backdrop. The lake supports a population of crocodiles and attracts migratory birds during winter. A well-maintained jogging track circles parts of the lake, and several lakeside restaurants in Hiranandani offer dining with water views. Boating facilities operate during daylight hours.
