Standing on a modest hill overlooking Girgaum Chowpatty, the Babulnath Temple is one of the oldest temples in Mumbai devoted to Lord Shiva. Visitors are requested to ascend the stairway towards the temple, where it is said that the Shivalinga manifested itself miraculously under a Babul tree, giving the temple its name. The present temple was reconstructed in 1890 and contains exquisite carvings and rich serenity, and is beloved by thousands of devotees throughout the week but especially on the day of Mahashivratri. When arriving to the temple, you will notice the elevated position provides 360-degree views of South Mumbai and the experience feels very spiritual.

History
This ancient temple is among the oldest in the city. Dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, the stunning temple dates back to the 12th century, built by local ruler Bhimdev or Bhima. However, over the years, it was abandoned and eventually buried until its rediscovery in the 18th century. Its reconstruction took place in the late 1800s.
