Accessibility Guide: Mumbai Metro for Differently-Abled Passengers

Mumbai Metro is designed to be accessible to all passengers, including those with mobility challenges, visual impairments, hearing difficulties, and other disabilities. Every station and train incorporates features that ensure safe, comfortable, and independent travel for differently-abled commuters.

This guide covers all the accessibility features and services available across the metro network.

Elevators & Lifts: Every metro station has at least two elevators connecting the street level to the platform. These are wide enough for wheelchairs and have braille buttons and audio announcements.

Escalators: Available at all stations with both up and down options.

Ramps: Gentle gradient ramps are provided at station entrances and within the concourse area.

Tactile Pathways: Yellow tactile guiding strips run from station entrances to ticket counters and platforms, helping visually impaired passengers navigate independently.

Wide Fare Gates: At least one extra-wide fare gate at every station accommodates wheelchairs and mobility aids.

Accessible Restrooms: Specially designed restrooms with grab bars, lower fixtures, and sufficient turning space are available at all stations.

Wheelchair Spaces: Dedicated wheelchair bays in each train with secure locking mechanisms.

Priority Seating: Clearly marked priority seats near doors for differently-abled passengers, senior citizens, and pregnant women.

Platform Screen Doors (Line 3): Automatic doors aligned with train doors ensure safe boarding — no gap between platform and train.

Audio-Visual Announcements: Station names announced in Hindi, Marathi, and English. LED displays show upcoming stations.

Low-Floor Entry: Minimal gap between platform and train floor for smooth wheelchair access.

Emergency Intercoms: Accessible emergency buttons and intercoms in each coach.

Station Staff Support: Trained station staff are available to assist passengers with boarding, alighting, and navigation. Simply approach any staff member or the help desk.

Wheelchair Assistance: Free wheelchair service available at major interchange stations. Request in advance through the metro helpline or app.

Companion Travel: One companion of a differently-abled passenger can travel free of charge.

Differently-abled passengers are entitled to significant fare concessions:

• Free companion travel: One escort/companion travels at no charge

2. Travel off-peak: For a more comfortable experience, travel between 11 AM and 5 PM when stations are less crowded.

3. Request assistance: Call the helpline 30 minutes before your journey if you need wheelchair assistance or guided support.

4. Carry your ID: Keep your disability certificate or UDID card handy for fare concessions.
