Mumbai Metro Fare Structure

Mumbai Metro follows a simple distance-based fare system that makes it one of the most affordable rapid transit options in the city. Whether you're travelling a couple of stations or across the entire line, fares are transparent and easy to understand.
Current Fare Chart:
• Up to 3 km: ₹10
• 3–7 km: ₹20
• 7–12 km: ₹30
• 12–18 km: ₹40
• 18–25 km: ₹50
• Beyond 25 km: ₹60 (maximum fare)
These fares apply uniformly across all operational metro lines.

Payment Methods

1. Single Journey Token
The simplest option for occasional travellers. Tokens are available at ticket counters and automated vending machines at every station. Tap the token at entry gates and insert it at exit gates.
2. Rechargeable Smart Card
Best for regular commuters. Available for a refundable deposit of ₹50. Recharge at any station counter or through the metro app. Enjoy a flat 10% discount on all journeys.
3. QR Code Tickets
Buy digital tickets via the Mumbai Metro app. Generate a QR code and scan at entry/exit gates. No physical token needed.
4. UPI / Contactless Payments
Select stations now accept UPI payments and contactless cards (Visa/Mastercard tap) at entry gates. This is being expanded across the network.

Passes and Subscriptions

Monthly Pass: Available for commuters with fixed routes. Offers unlimited travel between two specific stations. Typically saves 30–40% compared to single tickets.
Weekly Pass: Ideal for short-term visitors or project-based commuters. 7 days of unlimited travel on a selected route.
Tourist Pass: One-day unlimited travel pass available for ₹100. Great for tourists exploring metro-connected attractions.
Group Tickets: Discounted rates available for groups of 10 or more travelling together.

Money-Saving Tips

1. Always use a smart card: The 10% discount adds up quickly for daily commuters.
2. Buy monthly passes: If you travel the same route 5+ days a week, a monthly pass pays for itself within 15–18 trips.
3. Combine metro with bus: Use metro for the main journey and BEST buses for last-mile connectivity. BEST bus fares start at just ₹5.
4. Travel off-peak: Some promotional offers apply during off-peak hours.
5. Recharge online: Avoid queues by recharging your smart card through the app. Cashback offers are sometimes available via UPI payments.

Fare Comparison: Metro vs Other Transport

How does Mumbai Metro compare with other options?
Auto-rickshaw (5 km): ₹60–80 | Metro: ₹20
Taxi/Cab (10 km): ₹150–250 | Metro: ₹30
Local Train (same distance): ₹5–15 (2nd class) | Metro: ₹20–30 (AC)
While local trains are cheaper, the metro offers air-conditioned comfort, less crowding, and better accessibility — making it excellent value for the price.
