History

Built in 1864 in memory of Sir Bartle Frere, Governor of Bombay. The fountain, depicting the Roman goddess Flora, was designed by R. Norman Shaw. Renamed Hutatma Chowk in 1960 to honor Samyukta Maharashtra Movement martyrs.
