Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum Mumbai
About
Mumbai's oldest museum showcasing decorative arts and city's cultural heritage. Established in 1857 as the Victoria and Albert Museum, this is Mumbai's oldest surviving museum, beautifully restored with its original Palladian architecture. Located within the Jijamata Udyaan (Byculla Zoo) compound, the museum houses a treasure trove of decorative arts including historical maps of Bombay, rare photographs documenting the city's transformation, clay models of everyday life, and miniature silver furniture. The restoration in 2008 won a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award. The museum regularly hosts contemporary art exhibitions that create a fascinating dialogue between Mumbai's past and present.
