Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum

About

Historic house where Mahatma Gandhi stayed, now museum dedicated to his life. This two-story building on Laburnum Road in Gamdevi served as Gandhi's Mumbai headquarters from 1917 to 1934, a period that shaped India's freedom movement. It was from this house that Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Swadeshi Movement, and the Satyagraha campaigns. The museum preserves his room with the original spinning wheel (charkha) and personal belongings. A research library with over 50,000 books on Gandhi and Indian independence sits on the upper floor. Dioramas depicting key moments from Gandhi's life and miniature sculptures line the staircase. The quiet, meditative atmosphere contrasts powerfully with the bustling city outside.
