Banganga Tank Mumbai

About
Ancient sacred water tank surrounded by temples on Malabar Hill. According to Hindu mythology, this freshwater tank was created when Lord Rama shot an arrow into the earth to quench his brother Lakshmana's thirst during their journey to rescue Sita. The tank is surrounded by stone steps (ghats), centuries-old temples, and dharamshalas (pilgrims' rest houses), creating an atmosphere that feels transported from Varanasi to Mumbai's upscale Malabar Hill. Despite being just meters from the Arabian Sea, the tank remarkably contains fresh water. The annual Banganga Music Festival brings renowned Indian classical musicians to perform on its steps under the stars. The entire precinct is a protected heritage site and one of Mumbai's most atmospheric spots.
