Mumbadevi Temple Mumbai
About
Ancient temple dedicated to Mumbai's patron goddess, the city's namesake. The city's very name derives from Mumbadevi—a combination of Mumba (the goddess) and Aai (mother in Marathi). The current temple structure in the Bhuleshwar area was rebuilt in the 18th century after the original on the Esplanade was demolished. The shrine features a striking orange-painted exterior and a golden idol of the goddess adorned with a silver crown. Surrounded by the bustling Zaveri Bazaar jewelry market and the fragrant Bhuleshwar flower market, a visit here immerses you in old Mumbai's commercial and spiritual heartbeat.
