Aarey Milk Colony

About

Mumbai's green lung with dairy farms, nature trails, and tribal villages. Spread across 3,166 acres in Goregaon, Aarey Colony was established in 1951 as a dairy development project and has evolved into Mumbai's most important green buffer. The colony is home to Warli tribal hamlets where indigenous communities practice traditional art and farming within city limits. Nature trails wind through tropical forests that support leopards, spotted deer, and over 80 species of butterflies. The dairy farm welcomes visitors to see milking operations and buy fresh dairy products. Aarey's forests connect to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, creating a crucial wildlife corridor. The colony has been at the center of environmental conservation debates in recent years.
