A 12.11 sq km bird sanctuary at the foot of Karnala Fort hill, hosting over 222 species of birds including 37 migratory species. The sanctuary combines excellent bird watching with a trek to the historic Karnala Fort at the summit.

Drive via Mumbai-Pune Expressway, take Panvel exit. Located near Panvel on the old Mumbai-Goa highway. About 1.5 hours from Mumbai.

History
Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1968 to protect the rich avian diversity of the Karnala hill ecosystem. The area was historically significant as Karnala Fort controlled the Bor Pass trade route between the Deccan and the Konkan coast.
